As per the current phase of Covid-19 checking temperature at every point in the entrance of the premises had become essential. It has become essential to keep a person to perform this job and if there is a crowd it becomes difficult to do one-by-one. Hereby, I am going to discuss how infrared thermal cameras can be suitable for the application in such a situation.

What is an Infrared Thermal Camera?

Thermal Cameras are used to measure the temperature of the object. It is a non-contact temperature measuring instrument. It measures temperature by measuring infrared radiation emitted by the object.

1. Min/Max/Avg Point: 

    You can take several points/cursor to check the body temperature of the person. The minimum temperature and the maximum temperature are very essential. You no need to hold and check like a non-contact thermometer. It is very difficult to measure body temperature when there is a crowd.
With the help of this infrared thermal camera after placing it on a tripod or any stand asking people stand in front of camera max temperature point and minimum can be detected in less than a minute.

2. Field of View:

     With a wider field of view ( eg. 40 X 30 deg, 50 X 40 deg, etc) more area can be covered so the temperature of people standing in front can be checked quickly. Without a constrain checking one person at a time and not be able to check complete body temperature.

3. Alarm:

    While checking the temperature of 2-3 people in a place it is difficult to take a glance at the maximum temperature range. Who had crossed 98.6 deg Fahrenheit or 37 deg Celsius? There is an alarm function in this instrument which is beneficial in this situation. You can set the alarm if a person standing in a front cross the set range with a tune. 

4.Recording and Interfacing: 

   It is easy to record the video of temperature measured (body temperature). You can connect the thermal camera with your PC with USB or another interfacings available with the thermal camera it varies as per the different manufacturer. No need to check-in the instrument screen with comfort one can check. Social distance can be maintained.


Additional functions need to check while buying thermal camera are Response Time, Measurement Distance, Accuracy, and Battery Backup. There are various manufactures to check for infrared thermal camera like Flir, Fluke, Chauvin Arnoux, etc.
